1. Introduction & Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to Mado. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Mado platform, including our website, mobile browser interface, and AI-assisted stylist curation service (collectively, the "Platform"), operated by Mado Pte. Ltd., a company incorporated in Singapore.
By accessing or using the Platform, placing an order, or creating an account, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Platform immediately.
Mado's primary fulfillment operations currently serve travellers visiting Japan. The Platform is open to users worldwide, subject to applicable local laws.
2. Definitions
For the purposes of these Terms, the following definitions apply:
• "Platform" means the Mado website, mobile browser interface, AI-assisted curation service, and any related tools or features.
• "Rental Period" means the period between the confirmed delivery date and the agreed return date as specified in your booking confirmation.
• "Member" or "User" means any person who accesses or uses the Platform, whether registered or not.
• "Capsule" means a curated set of garments assembled by Mado and made available for rental for a defined period. Each Capsule is personalized based on your stated travel plans, style preferences, and the selections confirmed in your booking. A Capsule typically includes a combination of tops, bottoms, outerwear chosen to work together as a cohesive travel wardrobe.
• "Order" means a confirmed booking for a Capsule submitted through the Platform.
• "Curation" means the AI-assisted personalized wardrobe recommendation
3. Platform Access & Browser Compatibility
The Mado Platform is designed and optimized for the following environments:
• Desktop: Google Chrome (latest version) on PC or Mac
• Mobile: Google Chrome or Safari on iOS and Android mobile browsers
• The Platform may not function correctly on other browsers or older browser versions. We recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience.
Mado is a web-based service and does not currently require a native mobile app installation. Full Platform functionality is accessible via your mobile browser.
4. Account Registration & Login
4.1 Creating an Account
To access certain features of the Platform, including placing an Order, managing your bookings, and using our travel wardrobe curation service you must register for a Mado account and be logged in.
You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration, and to keep your account details up to date.
4.2 Travel Wardrobe Curation — Login Required
Our travel wardrobe Curation service is an AI-assisted feature that uses your travel context, style preferences and body measurements to generate personalized wardrobe recommendations. By using this feature, you acknowledge that recommendations are produced by automated systems informed by the data in your profile.
You must be logged into your Mado account before initiating or continuing a travel wardrobe curation session. This requirement exists so that:
Any preferences shared during a session while not logged in will not be saved and cannot be retrieved. Mado is not responsible for lost preference data resulting from unauthenticated sessions.
4.3 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You agree to notify us immediately at support@mado.style if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account. Mado will not be liable for any loss arising from unauthorised use of your account.
5. The Mado Rental Service
5.1 What Mado Offers
Mado is a curated travel wardrobe rental service. We assemble personalized Capsules and ship them to your selected location in Japan ahead of your travels. At the end of your rental period, you return the Capsule of garments to us.
All garments and the Capsule packing bag remain the sole property of Mado at all times. Rental does not confer any ownership, right to sub-let, or right to retain any item beyond the agreed return date.
5.2 Booking a Capsule
Capsule bookings are subject to inventory availability. Confirmed bookings are binding. Mado reserves the right to substitute individual garments with items of equivalent style and value if the original item becomes unavailable due to damage, loss, or stock constraints, and will notify you prior to dispatch.
5.3 Order Lead Time
All Orders must be placed at least 28 days before your requested delivery date. This allows Mado sufficient time to prepare and dispatch your Capsule from our warehouse to your designated location in Japan. Orders submitted with less than 28 days' notice cannot be guaranteed and may be cancelled at Mado's discretion, with a full refund issued.
5.4 Rental Period
Your rental period begins on the agreed delivery date and ends on the agreed return date, as specified in your booking confirmation. The rental period is fixed at the time of booking and cannot be extended once confirmed.
5.5 Delivery & Returns
Mado arranges outbound delivery of your Capsule to your specified address in Japan. It is your responsibility to ensure someone is available to receive the Capsule at the delivery address provided.
Return shipping costs are covered by Mado but it is your responsibility to ensure the Capsule is dispatched by the agreed return date. You will be required to drop off the return package at a
designated convenience store (konbini) or hand it to your hotel front desk using the return label included in your Capsule.
Late returns or missing items, be it garments or the Capsule bag, not returned by the return date will incur a late fee of SGD 20.00 per day per item, charged to your registered payment method. For avoidance of doubt, any such imposed late fee shall start accumulating from the day after the return date.
6. Security Deposit
A refundable security deposit of SGD 50.00 is collected for each Order at the time of booking confirmation. This deposit is held by Mado for the duration of your rental period and is returned to your original payment method within 7–10 business days following the satisfactory return of all garments in your Capsule.
The deposit or a portion thereof may be deducted or retained in the following circumstances:
• Damage beyond normal wear is identified upon inspection of returned garments
• One or more garments are returned late, and late fees apply
• Garments are unreturned or assessed as lost
Where damage or loss charges exceed the deposit amount, the remaining balance will be charged separately to your registered payment method. You will be notified of any deductions from your deposit within 5 business days of return receipt.
7. Garment Care & Handling
Mado garments are professionally cleaned and inspected before every Capsule is dispatched. You agree to:
• Handle all garments with reasonable care throughout the rental period
• Not wash, iron, dry-clean, or alter any garment without Mado's prior written consent
• Not make any modifications to garments, including but not limited to cutting, sewing, pinning, hemming, dyeing, or any other alteration that changes the garment's original form or construction
• Not wear garments in conditions that could cause foreseeable damage (e.g., muddy terrain, heavy rain without protection, high-risk food and beverage settings)
• Return all garments in the same condition as received, accounting for normal wear
8. Damage, Loss & Liability
8.1 Damage Assessment
All returned garments are inspected by our operations team within 3 business days of receiving the return Capsule. Damage is assessed against the condition recorded at dispatch.
8.2 Chargeable Damage
You will be liable for damage beyond normal wear, including but not limited to:
• Stains that cannot be removed through professional cleaning
• Tears, cuts, or structural damage to the garment
• Missing buttons, broken zips, or other hardware damage
• Damage caused by improper handling, storage, laundering, or modification
Damage fees are assessed at Mado's sole discretion, based on the cost of repair or, where irreparable, the replacement retail value of the item. You will be notified of any damage charges within
5 business days of return receipt. Any damage charges will be applied to your registered payment method.
8.3 Lost or Unreturned Items
If a garment is not returned within 14 days of the return date, it will be treated as lost. You will be charged the full replacement retail value of the item, plus any accrued late return fees.
9. Payments, Pricing & Refunds
All prices on the Platform are displayed in Singapore Dollars (SGD) unless otherwise stated. Mado accepts major credit and debit cards through our payment gateway (Stripe). By placing an Order, you authorise Mado to charge your payment method for the rental fee, security deposit, and any applicable fees incurred during or after your rental period.
• Rental fees are charged in full at the time of booking confirmation
• The SGD 50 refundable security deposit is charged at booking confirmation and returned after satisfactory return of all garments
• Late fees, damage fees, and replacement charges are invoiced separately and charged upon assessment
• If Mado cancels your Order, you will receive a full refund, including the security deposit, within 7–10 business days
10. Cancellations & Modifications
Cancellation requests must be submitted via your Mado account or by contacting support@mado.style. The following cancellation policy applies:
• Within 3 days of your order, you may cancel for a full refund.
• After 3 days of your order, a 50% refund will be issued.
• 5 days before the agreed dispatch date, your order will enter the preparation stage and can no longer be cancelled or refunded.
All cancellations must be submitted via support@mado.style.
Booking modifications (change of dates, delivery address) are subject to availability and must be requested at least 14 business days before dispatch via support@mado.style. Mado will make reasonable efforts to accommodate changes but cannot guarantee them.
11. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Mado Platform to:
• Provide false or misleading information in your account, booking, or communications
• Attempt to bypass account login requirements or access another user's account
• Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access the Platform
• Engage in any conduct that damages, disrupts, or overloads our systems
• Attempt to purchase, transfer, or sub-let garments without Mado's written consent
Mado reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines without prior notice.
12. User Content & Social Media
12.1 Sharing Your Mado Experience
We love seeing how you style your Capsule. If you tag Mado on social media or use our #styledbymado hashtags, you're inviting us to engage with your content publicly.
12.2 Permission to Feature Your Content
By tagging @mado.style or using Mado-associated hashtags in a public post, you grant Mado a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to share, repost, or feature that content on Mado's social media channels and/or website, with appropriate credit given to your account.
This permission covers:
• Reposting or sharing your public social media posts on Mado's Instagram, TikTok, or X accounts
• Featuring your images or videos on the Mado website (e.g., lookbooks, customer stories, or testimonials sections)
• Using your content in Mado's marketing materials in unaltered or lightly edited form (e.g., cropping, colour correction)
12.3 What We Will Always Do
• Credit your account or handle whenever your content is featured
• Honour removal requests if you would like your content removed from Mado's channels, contact us at support@mado.style and we will action it within 5 business days
• Never sell your content to third parties or use it in a misleading context
12.4 Content Standards
By sharing content that features Mado garments, you confirm that:
• The content is your own original work and you have the right to share it
• The content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
• The content complies with the platform's community guidelines where it is posted
Mado reserves the right to decline to feature any content that is inconsistent with our brand values or community standards, without obligation to notify you.
13. Intellectual Property
All content on the Mado Platform, including text, imagery, branding, styling guides, and AI-generated curation outputs are the intellectual property of Mado Pte. Ltd. or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use any content for commercial purposes without our written consent.
14. Privacy & Data Protection
Mado is committed to protecting your personal data. We collect and process personal information in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) and our Privacy Policy, which is available on our website.
By using the Platform, you consent to the collection and use of your data as described in our Privacy Policy. In summary:
• Your personal data is collected for the purposes of order fulfilment, account management, rental history tracking, and AI-assisted service personalisation
• Your style preferences, body measurements, and rental history are stored securely and used to train and improve our AI curation system and personalise your Mado experience
• We do not sell your personal data to third parties
• You have the right to access, correct, or withdraw consent for the use of your personal data at any time by contacting support@mado.style
15. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Mado's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Platform shall not exceed the total rental fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Mado is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, including loss of income or enjoyment, arising from service delays, garment unavailability, AI curation inaccuracies, or platform downtime, unless caused by Mado's gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
16. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.
We encourage you to reach out to us at support@mado.style before taking any formal steps. Most concerns can be resolved quickly through direct communication, and we are committed to working with you in good faith to find a fair outcome.
17. Changes to These Terms
Mado may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
